Drop Box Creation
- If you don't already have a Dropbox account, go to dropbox.com to create one.
-
A suggestion would be to use your gmail account and password. Less to remember.
- Follow the directions that are displayed on screen.
- As there are likely multiple users at school using the same computer account to log-in on a single computer, it might be necessary that you go to the dropbox preferences > account icon and unlink the computer. (To protect your files, you should get into the habit of unlinking the computer when you are finished working on your files. That way other people won't accidently upload to your dropbox location)
-
Select the "I already have a dropbox account option"
-
You will be prompted to enter in your username / email and password
-
Select the 2 GB / Free option, then press continue
-
Select "Typical" and the press the "Install" Button
- A dialogue box will come up asking you to "Merge with and existing Dropbox folder?"
-
As you want to keep your folders unique from students in other classes, please click the "Choose Another Location" button.
- Navigate to the folder for your period or block. Then press "Select" button. If this is the first time you linked your Dropbox account to this specific computer, the computer will automatically create the folder. However, if you linked the account and the computer before, you will be given a message that the folder path has already been associated with a different user. Click the "Merge" option.
- Since October 4, 2012, Dropbox no longer automatically creates a public folder. To create a public folder on your account in which to upload your website, go to the following link and follow the directions.
https://www.dropbox.com/login?cont=https%3A//www.dropbox.com/enable_public_folder
- To syncronize your website at home, you will need to go to the dropbox.com website and download the app to your computer and link it to your Dropbox account. Or alternatively, you could login and do your uploading and downloading via the website.

The Public folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox. Any file you put in this folder gets its own Internet link that you can share with others -- even non-Dropbox users!
-
Step 1: Drop a file into the Public folder.
-
Step 2: Right-click this file, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere: emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.
-
That's it! To share your file, just send the link to a friend.P.S. You can only link to actual files within your Public folder, not to folders.

The Photos folder allows you to share photos with anyone (even non-Dropbox users) in an online gallery.
-
Step 1: Make a folder inside the Photos folder, and give it a name. This will be the name of your gallery.
-
Step 2: Put some pictures inside the folder you just created.
-
That's it! You can now view and share this photo gallery online at https://www.dropbox.com/photosP.S. Online galleries are only created for folders within your Photos folder. For help with photo galleries visit https://www.dropbox.com/help/18
-
To give or share the link to other people or publish the link so your assignment can be marked, you might have to control or right click the folder in your Dropbox on the computer or on the website, and then "Share the Link", then press the "Copy Link to This Page" option. Finally go to wherever you want to display the link and paste accordingly.
