Advertisement ReWork

Project Details:
 

  • Your task is to find an in-effective advertisement from either the yellow pages of the phone book, a newspaper, or a mail flyer. 
     
  • Make a detailed list of the design and content problems with the ad and propose how you will go about changing or correcting them.
     
  • Once you have finished your critique, use InDesign and the Principles of CRAP (contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity) to create two dramatically different versions of the advertisement that are more professional, clean, and more direct.
     
  • Compared to the original, your completed ads should have the potential to attract more customers and entice them to spend more money.
     
  • All of your work and discussions must be posted on a page under the assignments link in your portfolio.
    • Before version
    • Images of both after versions
    • Link to pdf that can be downloaded and viewed
       
  • Be sure to hand in your published folder to the hand-in folder on the server


Evaluation of Project
 

  • Depth of your discussion about the problems with the original advertisement
  • Evidence that you planned out your proposed ads by sketching thumbnail or mock-up versions
  • Effectiveness and extent with which you applied the basic Principles of Design (CRAP) to create advertisements that are visually appealing, readable, and well organized.
  • Achieved balance achieved between text and graphic elements
  • Uniqueness of your content and over-all designs
  • Extent to which your completed ads are distinct from one another
  • Extent to which you demonstrated a basic understanding of InDesign by applying different tools and techniques.
  • Extent to which you limited your font (Max 3) and color choices (Max 3)
  • Completed work is free from errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar
